Youth of the Yukon   2022
Branding and promotional media supporting an indigenous led adventure for indigenous youth. Presented by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Djinii Zhuh Adventures, youth from communities throughout the Yukon congregated at the mouth of Lake Laberge, setting off on a two week canoe trip north on the Yukon River.
Phase I - Promotional Material
To get the word out and attract registrants, a series of promotional products were developed to be distributed to communities throughout the territory. For visibility and ease of distribution, this material included digital images for social media, postcards and posters to be handed out in schools where accessible and posters designed to be printed on any desktop printer where it was not.
Phase II - Registration
Promotional materials directed youth to digital resources such as registration forms and liability waivers. These, like all products developed by the RCMP's National Youth Services, are created both in French and English.
Phase III - Event Support
To support the youth on their adventure, the RCMP coordinated with local distributors to provide dri-fit t-shirts, aluminum water bottles and waterproof stickers to commemorate the trip.
Working With Youth
The purpopse of the event itself was to build community and teach new/old skills. The design of the products was also an experience in teamwork as youth were able to vote on what to name the event and contribute designs that could be adapted for use on t-shirts, promotional posters and distributed as stickers.
Phase IV - Growth
With the adventure completed in late August, a short film was produced to document its success and promote the initiative amid plans to expand the event in 2023.
Recognition
The film (trailer above, in full below) has been featured in local film festivals and hugely successful in its impact on the RCMP, inspiring similar initiatives in other communities, such as the canoe trip from Kitigan Zibi to Maniwaki featured here.
